About Michelle

Michelle Lin (she/her/they/them) is an anti-oppressive / social justice-oriented human being who lives and works on the unceded land of the Bidjigal and Gadigal people in the Eora nation, in the region colonially known as “Sydney, New South Wales, Australia”.

I am an anti-oppressive social worker supporting people with curiosity, compassion, and my own vulnerability drawing on my lived experiences. I offer counselling, training, and supervision to help individuals uncover their authentic values rather than conforming to societal norms.

I specialise in working with people who are marginalised and/or experience oppression under neoliberalism, capitalism, and colonialism. I use an anti-oppressive lens and trauma-informed principles at all levels of my practice.

People who see me are often people of colour, for relationship counselling of all kinds of relationships, LGTBQIA+ folk, relational trauma, victim-survivors, people who have caused harm, neurodivergent folk, sex workers, and anyone who wants to reflect inwardly.

My professional background is that I am a social worker, counsellor, and a clinical supervisor. I’ve worked mainly in NGOs providing counselling and supervision/training, and in tertiary education teaching social work and counselling subjects.

My qualifications include a Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) and Graduate Diploma of Relationship Counselling, but more importantly I am a person who cares about empowering you instead of forcing you into a mainstream definition of success and happiness.

Positionality Statement:

I am a second generation Chinese-Australian settler, Queer, neurodivergent (“AuDHD”), and mostly able-bodied fat cisgender woman that lives with chronic pain/health conditions. I bring wisdom and empathy from my lived experiences of unwell mental health, use medication for my mental health, poverty & homelessness, family violence, racial violence, structural oppression, and being failed by services. I practice Relationship Anarchy/solo polyam when I choose to date.

I recognise my privilege and reflect on being sighted and hearing, middle class, and having Australian citizenship, tertiary education, stable private housing, food security, and being mostly able-bodied, and having the ability to work.
